I don't know about other software. That's why I used a
PC. It did it without complaining. It seemed to me
when I read your original post that the Mac couldn't
read the format of your drive but a Linux machine
could, up to a point. Thus it struck me that you may
not have formatted the drive itself, but rather
created a Mac partition on a Linux formatted drive.
That's why I suggested  you needed to remove the Linux
format first, and I did that with a PC. You may be
able to put a PC format on with your Linux software if
you don't have access to a SCSI equipped PC, but don't
ask me how. That's why I erased my Linux partition.
