The XP34300s however are a different story. The RF/RZ26 was able to spin up fairly quickly but the XP4300s continued to spin up until they finally timed out. Also to note, all five drives are recognized in Linux as "ANSI SCSI revision: 02".

The XP34300 is notoriously unreliable. I would not count on getting them to work. I had two of them back when they were new, exciting, considered fast, and expensive.
They both had to go back to Quantum under warranty. Quantum would not provide replacements. They paid cash. They had so much trouble with them, it just wasn't worth replacing them.
That model is very old--from ~1995 IIRC, slow in performance (by today's standards) and generates a lot of heat. It has a lot in common with the Seagate ST15150 except that the 15150 is more reliable.
