I sent the below email to OWC owner Larry. He has taken Sonnet to task

law suit. Sadly there may not be a large enough number of Umax owners
with these cards to mount a class act suit or for it to be worth while. I will

Sonnet's engineering has historically been second rate, but generally more affordable. Of course any entity may change with time, but going all the way back to the 680x0 days (before Power PCs) Daystar sold excellent 68030 and 68040 upgrades which worked well and Sonnet sold slightly less expensive upgrades which did not work with virtual memory.
In the NuBus PPC days, NewerTech's PDS slot G3 upgrades for the 7100 and 8100 are compatible with the JackHammer SCSI card (which you'll want in any x100 machine whose processor it was worth upgrading) but Sonnet's isn't (or wasn't). Neither one works with the Atto SEIV for some reason.
And now the G4/800 doesn't work with OSX--although I must say that I'm impressed with their solution to the G4/six slot issue (only 9x00 and PTP, not S900). That's a fairly subtle bus contention issue and I'm surprised they solved it.
For what it's worth, the fact that Sonnet has such a long history of economized engineering, also means that the company has been around a really long time by computer standards. After all, they outlasted Daystar and NewerTech.
