the SIIG UltraATA Pro card will work in a S900 running OS 9.1?

the SIIG site:

http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=17&pid=419

says blue&white G3 or later and OSX 10.1 or later, but i trust you folks more than them. thanks in advance for advice, info.

IIRC, this is basically a rebadged Sonnet card (or vice versa, since SIIG makes hardware and Sonnet mostly doesn't). In my experience the Sonnet cards have many more compatibility problems. Or rather, in the years of reports on this list, that is the case.

I recommend that you get the Acard 6280M. It has similar features, definitely works on OS 9.1 and also works great in the lower slots of our S900s.

I have been using the 6280M to drive my IDE drive and my DVD-ROM drive on an S900 motherboard under OS9.1 for over a year. It's been trouble-free. And it's installed in a lower slot. Oh, and it has large drive support, which most (all?) 100/133 cards do, but it's one of those questions someone is likely to ask.

I have another 6280M in a Beige G3 which runs great under OS 10.2.8 and 9.1. It drives a Seagate 200 GB drive and two Seagate 160 GB drives (music server). I had to use longer cables in the Beige G3 than the 18" the ATA-133 specification denotes, but it works fine. On the other hand, I didn't buy the cheapest cables either. I used Cable Unlimited brand round cables which are still pretty affordable, but better than many.

I also boot the S900 into 8.6 and 7.6.1 on occasion, and the 6280M still works fine in those circumstances as well.

If you go to Acard's website and click on their Where to Buy (or whatever they call it) button, you'll find that there are two official mail order distributers in the USA. One is something like Mars Technology and the other is LaptopUSA or some such. My memory is hazy. Anyway, check their prices for comparison. I think I saw the 6280M at NewEgg for a good price.

I've seen them on Ebay for more than the official distributers sell them.
