Stanimir, why is it that I am able to display wingdings on my linux version(s) if the issue has anything to do with Gecko et al? The font is from my Windows system& I've show screenshots of the same.
I could only guess your system is supplying an Unicode character map for this font (probably independent of the font) to Gecko. You may try asking in mozilla.dev.layout or mozilla.dev.platform to verify what's exactly the case.
