I'm trying to talk about SeaMonkey's problem here. I only mention
that the same problem exists in Tb3 but not other Tbirds because I
tho't that information might help someone in SeaMonkey's
development.

And that's what I was trying to point out with my previous reply -
no Thunderbird version past version 3 has the problem fixed. I
don't know where you get that information from. Have you tried
Thunderbird 6 (or another greater than 3) to see what's actually
going on?

I have used Tb6 in the past but I don't currently have it installed
because it was auto-replaced by Tb7 in my Linux Mint 11 even tho'
the Tbird About says it is on the regular update not beta.

I tho't that both 6 and 7 were operating properly in f=f, but I
don't use them regularly like I do 2.0.0.24, and sometimes I
'misjudge' how that quoted text stripping behavior is working by
looking at the trailing spaces during the composing instead of
actually posting a test message.

See my results in moz.test. I may be wrong about the 'fixed'.

Your test using Thunderbird 7:

news://news.mozilla.org/5ckdnu-1uc4cjh3tnz2dnuvz_j2dn...@mozilla.org

shows all trailing spaces in quoted content stripped.
