Have you considered using the Display Mail User Agent extension?

No. Using Trunk, each day a new one, experience strongly recommends
avoiding extensions which are not really needed.

Definitely don't want to do more extensions if you're running Trunk.

That one will show a logo of whatever mail client is being used, and in
the case of Thunderbird, which platform. A mouse-over of the icon will
show the complete User Agent string. For some reason, the developer
hasn't bothered to show a platform icon for messages composed with
Seamonkey, and you have to use the mouse-over to see whether they're
working from Windows, Linux or Mac.

Using Mnenhy i am seeing the complete content of a user agent in my
header pane. Be it named X-Mailer, X-Http-Useragent or other. I can
choose what headers i wish to see. I can customize the list of available
headers.

Certainly works. I used Mnenhy several years ago, and I forget why I stopped. It may have been in the era of the shift of Thunderbird to v3, and if I remember correctly, it took the developer of Mnenhy to catch up to current versions of Seamonkey. I may have to give Mnenhy another try.

Why icons? :)

Mostly, visually convenient. Actually, my question was more directed at WaltS, than to you, although I replied to your response.
