Is it just me, or are other folks experiencing frequent hangs in the

It seems like half the web pages I visit these days lead to spinning
beachballs, 100% machine load, and often, the need to force quit and
restart.

Have you tried see what happens if you try running in Safe Mode?

My experience is that when you see this kind of problem happening, it's often something related to the user profile. The most obvious thing you get with Safe Mode is in disabling all your extensions, but sometimes, there's *something* in the profile (not necessarily related to extensions) that's disruptive, and and a reset of user prefs to defaults can sometimes be what's necessary.

For my own setup, it's been a long time since I've seen problems, but I know that with mine, my prefs.js file is really old, possibly dating back to the old Mozilla suite, and I know that there's some volume of cruft in there, including leftover stuff from discarded extensions, old printer definitions, and miscellaneous old preference settings that have been long forgotten.

I've also seen it happen on a portable apps installation of Seamonkey that had problems, where I went to safe mode, and after I incrementally reenabled extensions, and went back to normal mode, stability problems disappeared. I'm not sure if it was extensions that were causing the problem, or just that Safe Mode reset some sort of preference that was getting in the way.
