How do I confirm that java is disabled?

Java is installed separately from SeaMonkey, and SeaMonkey doesn't
install it on your computer. Installing Java is something you would
have
to do yourself. Assuming you're on Windows, you should see in the
Windows Control Panel, and be able to uninstall it from there.

I don't think you should worry about any sites requiring Java. I
uninstalled it around 10 years ago, and haven't had a need for it. The
websites you visit may be different, but it's a very safe assumption
that you won't need it.

Chris, if you were to go to a site which "required" Java to function
the
way the developers wanted it to work, would you likely get some message
asking you to turn on ("Click Here") Java for "best User interaction"??

Or would you just get a basically blank/black page??

Depends on what the page/app is and how it's built.

Set the Java plugin to "ask to activate" and go here to see what
happens:

On my Win7 installation.

No problems (well, almost!!). Ed.

I went into Edit->Tools->Add-ons Manager and changed Java 8U101 from
"Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate". Re-booted SM just in case,
clicked on your link, Ed, and went straight there.

Was it supposed to ask me??

(The "well, almost" I included up above was because, when I first went
to the Add-ons Manager, Java was listed towards the top of that screen,
whereas when I returned to check, Java was listed towards the bottom of
that screen, in amongst those Add-ons which don't work or which SM
thinks I should update!)

With Java disabled you shoud get this:

*After* I posted my last response, I checked again and noticed the "Activate Java(TM) Platform SE 8 U" line so I clicked the icon, and that portion of the screen went blank except for a line in the top left which had an picture and the text "Error - Click for details".

When I clicked, I got a seperate, little, Java window which had ...

User home directory = C:\Users\Daniel

then what looks like a listing of command keys. (c: clear console window, f: finalize objects on finalization queue, g: garbage collect, etc., etc.)

But I don't get to see your pocketwatch, Ed.
