The calculation looks at the recent Dues payment, but calculates the
new expiration date based on the current expiration date. That is the
expiration date becomes one year (or whatever the duration is set to)
from the post date of the current payment IF THE MEMBERSHIP STATUS IS
NOT CURRENT OR GRACE. If there is a current membership, it adds the
duration to the current expiration date. In Sarah's case, the current
expiration is Oct 1, 1999. When the member made a dues payment in
July 1999, ebase assumes it is an early renewal, and sets the
expiration date to Oct 1, 2000.
Sarah, it would certainly be possible to change that calculation, and
I don't see any further problems. The decision to do it or not is a
business practice decision, not a technical one.
My reaction personally is that it would not be a good thing to do.
Seems to me you are penalizing members for renewing early, when you
should be rewarding them for removing the need to send renewals.
