Our current status is that the group file is missing. Looking through old
backups it has been missing for quite a while. All the household information
about individuals seems to be intact so that you only notice that groups is
missing when you try to add someone to a household. I did find a very old
groups file, missing almost everything (only 2 entries). I looked through
the scripts and did not see one which would recreate the group file but it
looks like it can be done. So here's hoping someone else has had the problem
and created a script to recreate it.
Secondary problem:
While diagnosing the problem I discovered that we have been running without
all the files opened for a while. If we were in all files open mode, I
presume we would have gotten a nasty message about group being missing the
next time we started FMP and could have then gone back to a more recent
backup. [We need to change our backup policy, As is we have five zips named
Mon-Fri and then reuse them. We now have a CD writer and shortly will be
writing daily CDs and keeping them forever.] I am quite sure no one deleted
the group file explicitly as all but one of the users doesn't have a clue of
how to do that. Are there bugs in FMP that sometimes delete files? or
perhaps just confusing dialog boxes that might have convinced someone to do
something bad? All the files are managed by FM Server.
