I
believe that on a PC there is no customization for specific printers. I have
never had to do it, at least several laser printers and some inkjets. I have
never had the as delivered label output layouts work on a PC. It is easier to
generate new ones than play with the existing ones and hope that they will also
work on other printers. Just generate an empty label layout and cut and paste
the contents from the existing one. Then a little judicious renaming gets it all
working as if it came that way. There are several fields that are in the
standard label definition file that I don't understand, nor know how to get the
same effect by twiddling with the margins, etc.

Subject: [support] Re: labelsOn a PC, none of that complication is necessary.Selecting Avery 5160 gets all the dimensions right.Actually, that's a FileMaker function and works the same on either platform. If you're starting from scratch, that's the way to go and I should have mentioned that. The detail is useful if you're working with the existing layouts to make them work with a specific printer.-----Original Message-----

Subject: [support] Re: labels
I am having difficulty printing labels. I am using ebase with FileMaker Pro5.
I can find and query, preview my data, but I can't line up the data with the
10 down, 3 across labels. When I follow the HELP instructions, I get as far
as "Custom" on paper size, but when I enter the label dimensions (1 X 2 5/8)
I am told the minimum is 3." I would appreciate any and all help.
Thank you.You should set the page up to be a standard 8 1/2 x 11 page - that's size of a page of labels. Then set the margins up to match the page - for Avery 5160 (3x10) choose 1/2 inch top and bottom, and .18 on the sides. Then (here's the key) set it to 3 columns. That makes it print 3 across.
