Not that it's worth arguing about, but ... we feel the same way about
bug reports. If a report comes in that says nothing more than "things
are broken", we don't put a lot of effort into it. If someone has
clearly read the support page, gives us information on how to
reproduce, tells us the version they're running (which I realize you
did give in your first email), the platform they're running on, etc.,
we're more likely to reply quickly. Your initial email basically said
"I ran a really ancient Pidgin and it sucked, then I upgraded to a
reasonable version of Pidgin and it hangs. Please help." That's not
enough to provide any useful help, which tends to discourage spending
a lot of effort responding.
