you could do HARPEX on the 8 horizontal speakers, then take two virtual microphones, aim them into the upper part of your first-order b-format, run them through an allpass and maybe a bit of delay and mix the resulting signals to the upper speakers, to taste. not the canonical method, i do confess, but it will sound ok :)
