Actually, the most important thing is that the list/forum/whatever and its 
archive is held somewhere that can be considered reliable long-term.  This 
list satisfies that; Facebook, to my mind, does not (being too consumer 
oriented, and therefore subject to the vagaries of fashion).  This matters 
more than the particular manner of communication.
