That happened to me on this box when I was removing the second hard drive
and replacing it with a cdrom and also adding a 5.25 floppy. I had to
experiment to find the right jumpers and cmos settings and it kept
resetting EVERYTHING to the original configuration. I had the proper ones
written down so I would just go straight into setup, correct what I knew
and try different changes in what I didn't, save and reboot and try again,
and again, and again. As you can see by the fact I'm writing this email, I
did succeed. I was plenty proud of it, I did it all by myself, no panicky
phone calls to my friends, nor email to others. Just patiently figured it
out. Not bad for 18mos from computer phobic, huh?
