The onboard battery could be dead/flat. If its rechargable try
leaving the system on overnight (leave the monitor off); or NiCad
could have leaked out, in which case you would need to get a new one
for a few dollars.

This battery does things like keep the CMOS operational and keeps the
time going so you don't have to enter the date/time on startup.
