I think I have a problem like this with my Compaq Deskpro 286. It can not find the
hard disk not even when
booted from a floppy. The system date is back at 1980. There is a 7,2 volt Lithium
battery in it (in the I have
got two of them, none of them works).

If the battery is gone, with what do I replace it? A new battery of the kind that is
in it now, will probably cost
more than what the computer is worth. Perhaps a 9 volt alcalic battery of the new kind
that is "friendly to the
environment", it will probably not give more than 7 volts. Or will any 6 volts battery
do?
