I didn't mean to suggest that it was cpu dependant.  I just meant that the
bios in a lot of 386s have a limit of 540megs.  By the time the 486 came out
the limit was much higher.  Although, I would think that some early 486s may
have a low limit too.

My 386 has a limit of 1gig, but since it is scsi, it depends on the adaptec
scsi bios.
