Travis:
We have been using non-Intel CPU's since they first arrived on the
market. This particular machine has an AMD CPU with W95. I would be more
suspicious of the motherboard itself or the BIOS.
I hear a lot of problems with motherboards purchased at computer shows,
but have not personally had one that is bad - although I only buy from
one vendor at the local computer shows.
I perfer to keep my motherboard vendors limited to a maximium of two.
That way I know who to talk with if there is a problem.
Good luck,

Subject: chips other than intel
Hey folks. Got an interesting question here. I know that microsoft has
been in court several times for making their os non-compatible with
other
brands of os such as dr. dos, and novell dos. But has there been any
information passed over the wire about microsoft not behaving with
processor chips other than intel? My girlfriend bought an amd k6 300MHZ
chip/motherboard combo at the last computer show, (got a real good deal
too) and win95 is having one hell of a time with it all. Illegal
operations and blue screens all over the place. It's frustrating both
of
us to no end. I realize a 300MHZ machine is hardly survivior material,
though in 6 months it probably will be, but if this is a valid concern
for
the faster chips, I'm sure it would apply to the slower ones as well.
Anyone have any info on this one? Thanks much.
