Hi J.P.S.,

I'm sure there are several solutions to your problem. I use Nettamer
for e-mail and newsgroups. I started using it on a 1987 model 286
clone with 640K and it doesn't even need that much machine to work.
It will even provide limited web access. The registered version will
handle bulk mailings. The author also has another mail only program.
See www.nettamer.net for the latest (not always best) version. Also
see www.fdisk.com for lots of dos internet information and links.

You might be able to find a service provider that can give you a
shell account, but those are becoming harder to find. Then you just
use any terminal program to logon.

You probably should find a faster modem. You don't need the latest,
and you should be able to find a 14.4K for little or nothing on the
used market.
