David, thanks for your input! I'm actually far happier with my
computer-laden car these days than with any mechanical beast I've owned.
Part of that probably has to do with not owning one until age 27, having
lived in a city that didn't require one. I think that computerization has
made for better and safer vehicles, but it has added to their disposability.
Like most other things these days, it's become easier and cheaper to just
toss them and buy a new one rather than attempting to keep one going. Just
like the folks on this list, there are those who have the skills, knowledge,
time and ability to do that, but most folks don't, can't or simply won't (I
NEED a new car!).

Now, if cars would drop in prices like computers, I'd have far less
heartburn with that approach (environmental issues notwithstanding).

Personally, I'm just convinced that whatever vehicle I drive will eventually
make an attempt on my life! From the aforementioned kamikazi Ford Escort to
my Dodge van that could detemine when I was making a gutsy left turn and
stall. Only the Japanese ones seem to like me. :)
