As I am recalling from a couple of XP Pro installs I've done or been party
to, one has the option of choosing either NTFS or FAT32 when installing
the OS. Thus, it should probably not be automatically assumed that XP =
NTFS. Of course, if one has already installed XP on an NTFS
disk/partition, then the problems alluded to do apply.
