I had the exact same problem so I don't think it's just you.

I also know that it's not that file, since I managed to upload it to
my machine and install it by first grabbing it from an
internet-connected account and splitting it into 100K chunks and
uploading it to my machine.

I don't know what the fix is, either.

Yes. I'm running ppp over a modem, and your suggestion did not seem to
fix it, either.

Any other ideas out there?
