Hi,
I don't want to start a 'Bandwidth wasting desktop holy war', but for
many users customizing their work environment by editting fvwm<nn>
configuration files is just not friendly enough.
If Linux is to become a replacement for Windoze, the man in the
street who does not know (and does not want to know) 'vi' or 'ed' or
other noble UNIX editors will want something like KDE.
I agree that the GUI _implementation_ of M$ is not very successfull <smirk>,
(actually, not _just_ the GUI implementation) but provided drag and drop and
other GUI stuff really works (like in KDE, for example) it is very useful
and user friendly.
KDE may not be as fast as fvwm, but it comes with an integrated set of
tools (which is expanding weekly) and is easy to configurate. And speed is
relative of course, I use a 233MHZ/64MB box and am quite happy with KDE 1.1.
Anyway, it's all a matter of taste and opinion. Here at work I am forced to use
OpenLook with a lot of shell tool stuff, and I get by :).
Peace and Linux,
Martijn
