It is studies done in Switzerland and France, earlier mentioned on the list and can probably be found in the archives. Cancer causing particulates with less than 2.5 micron was worst for diesel with exhaust filter. Gasoline and diesel without filter was better, with a disadvantage for diesel. This was European diesel, which US probably call clean diesel. Since biodiesel reduce particulates with around 80% for B100 and significantly even with B20, it is less of an issue and an improvment. The same research estimated particulate pollution related death per year, to twice the number of fatal traffic accidents. The study can be found in the official EU publications.
