I had one fail running normal diesel at about 90K. At 90K my VW jetta sensor was reading 20C high, and it would not start well when it was cold. I replaced it fixed the cold start issue. It was about $12 for the part.
I have been running B5 and B20 for the past 4 years without problems. I checked temp and timing, this summer when I changed the timing belt, and it was dead on. Actually when I switched from normal diesel to B20/B5, my mileage jumped 8 miles per gallon to average of 42. Cleaning effect I assume, since it has not varied with fuel type.
