FINGER LAKES ARTISANAL CHEESE TOUR
Saturday, October 10, 11 am - 4 pm

Eight Finger Lakes cheese makers are jointly hosting an Open House on Saturday, October 10 from 11 AM to 4 PM. This FREE, self-guided tour is a chance for the public to sample the variety of artisanal cheeses being made in our region. Cheeses range from those made in the traditional English cheddar and colby styles, to Dutch-style gouda, cheese curds, and soft cheeses more typical of French and Greek types. All are produced with milk from the farm's livestock including traditional dairy cows, sheep or goats.

Cheese operations are a relatively new edition to the Finger Lakes landscape of farms and offer a new opportunity for visitors to the area and locals to enjoy the unique tastes of hand-crafted cheeses. The eight farms on the cheese trail include:
   * Cowlick Farm (Lodi)
   * Finger Lakes Dexter Creamery (King Ferry)
   * Finger Lakes Farmstead Cheese Company (Trumansburg)
   * Lively Run Goat Dairy (Interlaken)
   * Muranda Cheese Company (Waterloo)
   * Side Hill Acres Dairy Goat Farm & Cheese Plant (Candor)
   * Sunset View Creamery (Odessa)
* and Northland Sheep Dairy which can be visited at the Ithaca Farmers' Market during this tour

Visit as many places as you have time for and taste a variety of handcrafted cheeses. Visitors can start at any site on the tour route and realistically can expect to visit 4 stops during the 5 hour Open House. Samples and sales are part of the event, so plan to buy cheese, stop at a winery, grab a loaf of bread, and enjoy a day touring in the Finger Lakes.
