Description:
On October 18th we will be convening as many people as possible to take part in
a large scale, aerial photo shoot (from the roof of the Center Ithaca
building), whereby people will be standing in the shape of the number 3-5-0 in
order to educate the general public about the importance of this number and to
pressure delegates who will be setting legislation at the United Nations Forum
Convention on Climate Change in December. The photo event is the main activity
in a larger event – the "Climate Change Festival” - which will feature various
other activities, as per above. It is also one of many such events that will
be held in communities around the world on October 24th as part of 350.org’s
International Day of Action. (Please visit www.350.org for more information
about these events.)
As many people as possible are needed to take part in the photo and the greater
Ithaca community is invited to attend. People are also invited to create
banners (preferably on large, white sheets) with messages to the delegates that
can be included in the photo and/or to find creative means of expressing their
concern for the environment. The photo will likely be taken at 1pm.
Sponsors include Home Green Home, Snug Planet and Taitem Engineers.

**350 is the maximum parts per million carbon dioxide, as determined by leading
international scientists, that can safely be in the earth’s atmosphere before
global climate change becomes irreversible. At the upcoming UN conference
delegates have the
opportunity to set binding legislation that will determine how much carbon
nations will be able to emit in the future. It is essential that they set this
target at 350 ppm to ensure environmental and social justice into the future.
However, there are strong economic forces at work that are dissuading the
leaders to commit to this number.**
