If you are getting 0.0.0, then you definitely have a corrupt install. I am surprised the uninstaller takes so long (takes ago 10 sec on my machine, but I am on a PC). Perhaps plug-in switcher added a bunch of crap which the uninstaller had to remove (I know there isn't a registry etc on mac, but...)
