Wlater. I'm glad you got that working. What an obscure fix (good job finding it...)

I've resolved my issue. When Apple was making the jump from PPC to x86 processors, Flash 8 was out. When the operating system (I believe 10.4) was switched to an x86 architecture, Apple built a seamless PPC emulator into the OS called Rosetta. Using Rosetta, Macs can automatically emulate PPC programs without the user even knowing it. The Flash 8 for Mac plug-in was built on that old PPC architecture. Around that time, browsers had the option of starting in Rosetta rather than the native architecture - albeit at a speed hit. When the OS was initially released, there wasn't a way to use Flash because Adobe hadn't released an updated version of the plug-in. Likely because they were busy finishing up Flash Player 9. My guess is that because Flash is a plug-in, Rosetta didn't know to start browsers in Rosetta. Or maybe it was another jab at Adobe by Apple. Whatever the case, you can force a browser to open in Rosetta by opening the info window in Finder (clicking the app and selecting "Get Info"), then ticking the "Open in Rosetta" box. Safari and Opera no longer support this, but Firefox 3 does. This causes everything to work as expected. The expressInstall files work now, and the link you sent above correctly detects the version I have installed.
