Besides Discord not being FOSS, Discord is a great choice. They have expanded it to be useful for much more than just gaming now.
It does allow different nicknames for different servers. I haven’t tried, but I have connected to people through it who suddenly have different names depending on if I DM them or chat to them on a specific server! 🤣 I love the ease-of-use of it and the fact it works on any device, including simply in a web browser, and remembers your read/unread status of messages. And allows voice. And allows screen sharing.
