Tuesday, 10th June at 7.30 p.m. Alex Livingston will talk on: Experience,
Explanation, End - Everything.

With reference to ends, experience, and explanation, Alex hopes to convey
his objections to dogmatic universal naturalism. He argues that in light of
our experience, recollected as explanation, we decide what to do to achieve
pleasant ends - and to avoid unpleasant ends. He hopes to convince us that
it is perilous to disregard an explanation just because it is "religious" or
"traditional" and not reducible to a "scientific" one.

Alex is a long term contributor to Philoagora and says "Not long after
parting company with my IT job, I studied philosophy for a year or so at
UNSW. Enormous developments in my thinking began, and I now consider
philosophy the mother of all disciplines and realise that no human being
avoids having philosophical thoughts and beliefs"

The talk commences at 7:30, however come early from 6 o'clock and enjoy a
meal with the regulars. Full details of our program, venue and our format
are available on our website www.philoagora.com .

We meet at the Fair Trade Coffee House, 33 Glebe Point Road, Glebe, $6.00
and includes a free cup of coffee or tea. All profits from the Fair Trade
Cafe go to Third World development.
