Thanks for the hints and examples. I have the impression you did also use common subexpression elimination for this example. The plan is to have CSE at the codegen level in future. f2py is indeed one of the things I need for my work too. I was also thinking of generating code for numpy ufuncs, but I'm not familiar yet with implementing ufuncs. Again, this is all to be done in codegen.py. Linking to external libraries is in principle straightforward. The plan is to show how this works in sympy/test_external.
