just for your sure - I am using non-english charset everyday. My native 
language using special chars too!

Your problem is very simple. You are passing bad data into synapse and 
you are wonder if Synapse produce bad data on the output.

It is because Synapse see just ISO-1 characters on the input. In your 
subject is no other chars. Why? because you destroyed it somewhere 
before...
