It turns out, once more I was being stupid: I had forgotten to run the
'​update-ca-certificates' (in this system) after copying the CA cert to the
right
place.

​After doing this, it also sufficed to pass a
"REQUESTS_CA_BUNDLE": "/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt"
to the sync server for it to believe in system-wide certs :)

I just managed to sync my first bookmark over SSL! Hurray! :D
