Try Vmac rather than Basilisk, there's a OSX version. There is also a second program who's name is forgotten by me that will also emulate "classic macs". These programs give a more genuine emulation of sys6 or below than Basilisk which I think you will find more to your liking.

Myself? At home I still use writenow on my Plus running system 6. At the office I use AppleWorks 6.2.9, not a perfect program, but it is sufficient.
Not perfect like most software affected by bloat and eye candy. :(
