I'd just like to first advertise a website on a mini-venture of mine, about programming. I've aquired the original editions of Inside Mac (vols 1 to 4), a few books here and there (French book: Mac programming; another on game animation (basic mostly) by Ron Person; I'm also waiting for a 1992 book on the mac toolbox that I bought for $1 + 12 shipping...heh. Half.com robs people on shipping).
But I digress. There's very little documentation online, apart from the not-always related technical programming docs on Apple's website (but they offer versions in both Pascal and C, and are quite useful in their way). I've been able to successfully use the square-wave synth, and do some crude key-controlled animation (more like translations for now) via offscreen graphics. Next steps include multiple-frame animations on a format I have to decide upon. 4-tone synth usage, etc.
I'm lining up to do a kind of platformer game with smoothly animated characters and background props. Dark Castle is an influence for sure.
I've also inquired about Studio Session files from the current super studio session website. I just got an answer from them. The thing is, it could do 6 simultaneous instruments, while the Mac plus' rom can only deal with 4 tones. The email said that they basically rewrote (through ROM patch maybe) the rom so that it could deal with 6, then 8 on the "super" version. I also asked them whether they had source code for playback of these files, but they told me only the player could do it (which is false, there is a tetris game that uses blatant studio session music files, along with the instruments). I'm thinking of maybe taking a screenshot of that game's folder and sending it back to them. ;)
