I may be different to everyone else, but I'm sure true gamers (I have two teenage sons :) have no interest in old platforms.
Therefore, I think your efforts are going in the wrong direction. Those of us still supporting OS 6 and early Macs are probably trying to do productivity things with our Macs.
If you look over at www.zophar.net , a very comprehensive website about emulation, you'll find links to heaps and heaps of relatively recent demos and games programmed for retro-consoles (NES, first gameboy, etc). Why is that the case? What pushes them to dive their noses into technical assembly documentation for these platforms? What drives them to understand the fine intricacies of legacy sound chips and circuit boards of the video game platforms of old? Do they want to publish their work to turn a profit? Certainly not. Do they want to gain a large audience for their games from the internet? Surely they aren't that pretentious. No, the reason lies in the challenge of doing so, and the geekery factor attached to it. My goal in programming a System 6 compatible game, with fluid animation and sound effects, lies simply in its accomplishment - I will be happy when it's done, but I'm also happy trying to reach that place. It's a hobby.
And I'm looking for b&w bitmap artists! ;)
