Didn't think DB4 would be a problem, its pretty generic, I've had a shot at Netatalk 2 without much luck so went back to 1.6 which is very solidand drives MBP.
I hope you have better luck and look foward to a successful compile.
Well, I got netatalk 2.0-rc2 to compile with Berkeley DB 4.2.52.
Right now I need to watch a movie with the wife, so if anyone wants to download these, install them, and see if they work, they are available on my .Mac page:

Netatalk is configured with the defaults, except CUBS is disabled. BDB is configured iwth the defaults. Netatalk installs in /usr/local, and BDB installs in /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2.
