The whole notion of asking people to stay seated at any entertainment event
has always struck me as contradictory.  You want people to be involved and
excited, but you are irritated when they become excited.
I understand the in-between standing, and the railriders, but when the 100 m
is on the track, stand your behind up!!!  It worked beautifully in Sydney,
and the roar when the gun went off was deafening.  Same for the 400w and the
LJ.
The interesting thing about this discussion is that for as long as I can
remember standing was the norm at track meets.  I do not know how many of you
live in California, but at the CIF meets, and State meets at Cerritos you
stood constantly, partly to see, to cheer, and mostly because there was
nowhere else to sit.
Standing is a sign of interest and excitement, do not kill that.
