This thread is getting quite long. To recap, the problem is that if your PTv2 route consists of only one way there is no way to tell in which direction it runs without providing more information.
Break the single way into 2 ways...
Or use the order of  'stops' .. they should be ordered from start to finish. If a circular route then start and finish can be the same.

1. Put in at least two stops/platforms.

Actually you don't. The stop/platforms are only "recommended if available".

In fact a valid PTv2 route can be just a relation with:

type=route
route=train/.../ferry

and a single way. Everything else is recommended or optional.
Then there would be no method of getting on or off .. you need some 'stops'.
