Hi,

we have currently two french speaking people (if we can count on Nathalie). It is not ideal but still okay for me. Nathalie, if you want to translate then please answer the question:

Which platforms do you use
a) usually for translation work or
b) which you would like to use for translating (e.g. GitHub, e-mail communication (sharing docs around)

I will use your input to set up the working flows (nothing complicated). No experience in translating needed. You will just need your language skills which you have.

If others want to help translating, please don't be too shy to reply :)

Now I have two questions:
1. Who wants to do the translation work? (I know one who could do this but I recommend a team of least three so the load is not too high on the shoulders of each of them. E.g. the current translation project in Spanish which we will finish soon for and with the Spanish speaking community of Latin America counts four translators.)

2. Which platforms do you use
a) usually for translation work or
b) which you would like to use for translating (e.g. GitHub, e-mail communication (sharing docs around)

The documentation is written in Markdown which allows translating without the lost of formatting. Translators see the formatting and know not to touch these e.g.

**This is bold text** (en) --> **Esta el texto en negrita** (es) .

Markdown is similiar to WhatsApp Codes or Telegram formatting but much more powerful.

And they don't need to know how to work with Markdown but with plain text files. Markdown is a typewriting format and if needed (not for our purpose) really easy to learn.

Thank you Sören for the great job you are doing with Communities in terms of Public Transport Organization.
My answer to your question "Does your community need a translation into French? If yes, I would set up the translation infrastructure and invite the onces wanting to do the translation work" is yes.
Yes, a translation into French will be very useful for most of the West African OSM Communities and some of them including OSM Mali have been already working on Public Transport Mapping Projects.

Hello Sören. talk-africa@openstreetmap.org is English language only but,
in French-speaking West Africa, the Openstreetmap contributors use
French almost exclusively in their Openstreetmap practice. French
translation proves valuable in including them.

cc: Nathalie Sidibe, from Openstreetmap Mali, who is fluent in English
but very aware of how much French translations are required in her local
community - she can give you the local perspective.
