No it's not. That's an identifying reference created by the Royal Mail.
Everybody else uses if for convenience, but there's nothing really,
apart from the hassle, to prevent another delivery company from
inventing their own.
You should add house address numbers to the addr:housenumber tag.
There's no logical difference between a plate saying "Field Cottage"
and a plate saying "No. 23".
addr:housename=Field Cottage
It's the way properties are described in legal documents.
But not in OSM.
