That's funny Grant - I always thought that the zoomed-out tiles updated
first, and that it took ages for the detailed tiles to update :-)
I'm sure it was that way a couple of years ago - has the processing
order changed? Or am I mistaken?

Did you force them by simply appending a  /dirty to the tile URL? e.g.
http://b.tile.openstreetmap.org/10/574/615.png/dirty

(this seemed to work, by the way - on the above tile that did not yet
contain the "mossel bay" wording before I forced re-rendering)

So, it seems this is just a delay in re-rendering. For the benefit of
other list members, the trick to force a re-render is then:

      * On the slippy map in the browser, right-click on the spot and
        "copy image url" or "view background image" or whatever your
        browser says.
      * It'll return a URL like
        http://b.tile.openstreetmap.org/10/574/615.png (single tile)
      * Append /dirty to submit for re-rendering (and others
        like /status to see when it was last updated etc)
