I do like Dectalk but I have to take breaks from it from time to time or it gets on my nerves.

I still have dec-talk, because I bought mine back when it had it. I don't
like eloquence, because I don't like the way it sounds, and it's not as
loud, but I have to agree with you; it is quite snappy in its
responsiveness. I have never had or heard vocalizer, so I can't compare
that. Pam.

Exactly. You also don't have to pay for Eloquence, which while it isn't my
favorite synthesizer in terms of the actual speech is still just about the
fastest synthe I've ever used in terms of responsiveness, although the
Vocalizer voices are pretty good in that department as well.

Hi. Actually you would need to purchase a license for Dectalk.
Actually you've already made the large investment by buying WE in the
first place. For me the cost of an SMA is worth it for the tech support
and the delivery of cds for upgrades that use an SMA count. You also
can get your licensed upgrade quickly. Ok, the servers got hammered at
first but you've had WE for a while and probably have had quite a few
upgrades while you've had your SMA. I would rather have an agreement
with GW/AI for my screen reader. MS has nothing to do with it this way.
The free option is really fantastic for people who can't make the
initial investment in their screen reader but in my opinion its value
decreases for those of us who are working with the licensed full copy.

My last SMA is done, so I'm debating whether to buy a new one or move to the free version of WE to upgrade to WE 9.2. The quality of tech support was a big reason I chose Window Eyes originally and that is a big factor for me to consider in this switch, but I also want to know if others who made the switch think I'm giving up anything else. I currently use the Dectalk voice in WE and do have Kurzweil so I can use that Eloquence voice if I have to.

Opinions?
