That's a great idea.  Only problem is that I don't have a CD drive on my
Surface Pro.  Otherwise, that would be a great way to do it.  Thanks.

Hi Les,
One way of determining whether a quiet machine has shut down is to press 
the open button on the CD drive. The door will only open if the machine 
is running.  This technique can also be useful if there is a lot of 
background noise.
