I haven't been following this thread so apologies if I am off the mark.


I recently installed the latest update for Windows 10.  I think it was a 
security update.  Window-eyes on my desktop then started opening and then 
complete silence.  I tried using NVDA, Jaws and Narrator but to no avail.  In 
the meantime my laptop was working fine with exactly the same update.  I then 
wrote to someone on another list who I believe works for Microsoft.  He advised 
trying "sndvol" which made absolutely no difference.  After about two weeks my 
machines both downloaded and installed another update of some kind.  
Miraculously, my desktop suddenly started talking again and I haven't had any 
further problems. A Web search found a lot of comments about the update to Win 
10 was causing problems with certain makes of sound card Etc.  I have no idea 
if any of this is to do with your discussion but I thought the information 
might be helpful.
