Since Firefox 3 (search as you type now in the address bar, it finds urls or page titles you've previously been to, even if you type something mid-url), I've been apending &map=Durham to the permalink url. I haven't been using that for a link, but it means next time I want to view the same area I just have to type in map=Durham to bring back the address. Maybe title= would be more suitable.
