Talking about new phones, is it possible for Talks to develop go into
phones
like S40 ops? Just wondering.

Hi. The thing is, Stephen, Nokia are releasing Symbian phones with normal
keypads, plus touch, and they are very nice keypads ... If you're sighted!
The trouble is, they are all series 40 devices. My partner and I looked at
some when he wanted a new phone, as he's sighted. In the end, I just gave
him an N96 I was given by the Carphone Warehouse to replace my broken, but
much nicer looking, N85. I never liked the N96, so never bought one. The
partner likes the big buttons and screen though, as his sight is failing.
I think we all need to realise, Nokia cares very little about blind
people.
If things happen to be accessible through third parties, then fine, but
their nearest to a nod to accessibility was Voice Aid, which was like
Microsoft's Narrator ... Only worse!
I stil love the Nokia phones I have, and that's a lot, and may buy one or
two more before Symbian S60 dies totally, but I think their stance on
accessibility for the blind, and those with disabilities in general, is
woefully inadequate! look at the Ovi Store client, just for a start!
Hence me purchasing an iPhone 4 a couple of weeks ago, which makes Talks
with touchscreens look amateur! Mobile Speak is a bit more like the iPhone
experience, with its swipes, but Nokia don't include either out of the
box,
like Apple.
Having said all this, I do realise how expensive Apple devices are. I only
afforded my deal because it's a refreshed, IE refurbished, iPhone. Fine by
me. Works great!
I think Alan is totally correct, you know. Nokia S60 phones only seem to
have qwerty, touch, or both nowadays! I think the mobile market for the
blind is a depressingly bare place at the moment, even including Android -
touchscreen/qwerty again! What about people who just want to make the odd
call, send the odd text and, shock horror, have an accessible phone to do
it? Geeks like us can cope with the changes, but I do feel for those who
are
far less technical, and just want to dial a number!

yeah, the unofficial announce 2 new model is T7-00 and X7-00. there's also
another up coming model is E6. all of these 3 models
going to run on s^3 pr2.0 which is the latest release of symbian^3.
nokia also has discontinue numbering on their symbian OS, there'll be no
more ^3, ^4 and so on. all up coming new phone will be only
call symbian and it will be have pr1.0, pr1.1, pr1.2 and the latest is
pr2.0
codename Anna.
i dont know about other country, but as our last meeting with CEO Nokia
Malaysia, he told us "local nokia reseller" that Nokia will
no longer releasing any new S60 model which he refering to symbian 9.3 and
9.4 devices. 9.3 is for keypads phones and 9.4 is
actually S^1 phones, e.g. C6-00, N97, 5800 and so on.
another thing, keypads phones is different to qwerty keyboard phones. i am
talking about those pure keypads models and nothing
related to qwerty models.
since nokia is loosing share in the world sales to samsung, they changed
their marketing strategy. they even start to release those
S40 phones in touch and type which have both touchscreen and qwerty
keyboard. example of such model are C2-06, C3-01 touch and type
and X3-02 touch and type.
again, i am not talking rubbish here, i am telling whatever fact that i
been
told.
p.s. no arguement in this issue.

We'll have to wait and see if they come out with other keypad phones or
not.
Nokia did announce not released two new phones within the last 2 weeks.
The
phone will probably be available later this year. Will they work with the
current version of Talks? The answer is I don't know and would say
probably
not being they are running a later version of Symbian Power sign 3. One
has
just a touch screen and the other one has a quirty keyboard on it.
No I donot think Touch screen phone will be the only thing going. There
will
always be phones with keypad/keyboards on the market. Like I said, we'll
just have to wait and see what Nokia put out. If you want a phone witha
standard keypad! The best thing you can do is to call Nokia for your
country
and put in a suggestion that they put out some new Symbian phones with
standard keypads on them. The more people that call and have the
suggestion
entered into the system! The more likely it will get done.

hi Maurice and all,
if you feel that you are not comftable with the virtual keyboard, you can
purches a USB keyboard or a bluetooth external keyboard
and hook to the N8. the N8 do come with a USB-OTG cable and you can use
it
to connect a portable drive or external device with the
phone. with the external keyboard connected, you can use the phone as you
are with a laptop. but of course, talks is working find
with the setup. please purches keyboard that compatible with nokia phones
and bluetooth 3.0 is recommended.
HTH.

Hi All,
May I also put t my two pennith in here.
I agree with Alan that, however challenging it may seem, we are moving
into the Touch screen era.
For me as a totally Blind person , I have found this a challenge
especially
from the point of view of texting which I do a lot.
I have tried many talks-related nokia phones and others such as the HTC
desire and iPhone with speech output.
I find Texting slower than on a button phone.
I've also tried the touch screen phones that use a Qwerty keyboard for
texting and this is somewhat faster but, I don't always find it easy
doing
this with one hand and standing up.
So, I'm migrating onto the N8 and so far really like it.
In Particular, what I like about this phone is the fact that you can
have
either a Qwerty keyboard or number keypad with just one twist of the
phone.
It's taking a bit of getting use to but, I'm sure I will come around
and
I think Alan is right, it's the way things are going.
Just a personal view of course.
Maurice Press.

hi,
this is not my negative thought, but however, it could be the fact that
we
need to face for now or in the very near future.
the technology is moving towards touchscreen era and for sure no one can
give a stop on it. as of this writing, many of nokia
buttons phone already dismiss from the market and for sure nokia have no
further plan to release any new buttons symbian phone which
is runs on symbian S60 9.3.
i'm sure everyone of us already aware that nokia have signed partner with
microsoft to release nokia WP7 phones at the end of this
year or the latest earlier next year. but however, nokia have no sign
that
they will release any symbian buttons phone anymore,
though nokia announced that they will continue to support and release
symbian device, but it is only touchscreen phones or symbian^3
powered phones.
so, whether we like it or not, sooner or later, we still have to migrate
to
the world of touchscreen phones.
as of this writing, in my country "Malaysia", many of the nokia buttons
phone already dismiss from the market, unless those sellling
as a 2nd hand or use phones.
the following buttons phones still can be purches:
Nokia C5-00
Nokia E5-00
Nokia X5-01
Nokia 5320 (discontinued)
Nokia 6120C (limited stock)
Nokia 6670 slide (discontinued)
Nokia E63 (limited stock and color)
Nokia E72
Nokia E75 (limited stock)
so friends, in my personal opinion, why not take a test drive on a
touchscreen phone for now and learn the technology for the
future? since Nuance Talks already fully support on touchscreen phone
from
version 5.00 until now 5.20.
again, above is my personal opinion.

Subject: [Talks] a new nokia phone?
hello list.
i am wanting to upgrade my current phone to a newer one.
my old nokia e65 is dying a slow death on me and i want to get some
feedback
from people on this list as to what they are using and
what they might be thinking of upgrading to.
my initial thoughts were of the nokia n8, but i really don't know if i am
willing to spend the sort of money that that phone is, to
find that i either don't like the touch screen or i just cant use it.
so, my idea is to ask around on here and see what people are using and
basically to find out what one is the best option.
thanks to all who give their feedback on this message.
kind regards.
stephen faill
